NERVA, Roman Emperor born (d. 98); Although much of his life remains obscure, Nerva was considered a wise and moderate emperor by ancient histories, a view which was later popularized by the 18th century scholar Edward Gibbon, who termed the rule of Nerva and his four successors as that of the Five Good Emperors. By adopting Trajan as his heir, Nerva is said to have established a tradition of succession through adoption among the emperors which followed.

Like all the others of his age he enjoyed women and his boys. Contemporary gossip records that his most celebrated liaison was with this imperial predecessor, Domitian. It appears that Domitian, while a student, had the same problem most modern students have – a shortage of funds. So he did what some enterprising young scholars continue to do today: he turned a few tricks, one of whom was the Roman senator, and later Emperor, Nerva.

RENÉ VIVIANI (d: 1925) French politician and founder of the journal Humanité, born; A politician of the Third Republic, who served as Prime Minister for the first year of World War I. He was born in Sidi Bel Abbès, in French North Africa. When in France he protected the rights of socialists and trade union workers.

 REVEREND CANON CLINTON ROBERT JONES, JR, Episcopal author, born; Widely known for his expertise of issue of sexual orientation and gender identity, Canon Jones served on a special Task Force on the Church and the Homophile for the House of Bishops of the Episcopal Church from 1972 to 1975. He continued to serve on the diocesan Project H Committee, renamed the Committee on Sexual Minorities in 1980, until his retirement in 1986.

When persons in his congregation told hold him stories about mistreatment and abuse of Gay prisoners, Canon Jones began a prison ministry in which he went to the prison to interview and counsel Gay prisoners every two to three weeks over 20 years.

He published three books: What About Homosexuality, Thomas Nelson & Co., 1972; Homosexuality and Counseling, Fortress Press, 1974; and Understanding Gay Relatives and Friends, Seabury Press, 1978.  In addition, he published and presented many articles and research papers.

The Friends of Christ Church Cathedral inaugurated an annual Canon Clinton R. Jones Award at a dinner honoring Jones' forty years of active ministry at the Cathedral on November 12, 2005. Canon Clinton Jones died at his home on June 3, 2006, survived by his partner of more than 40 years, Kenneth Woods.

HARVEY MILK becomes the first openly Gay man to be elected in a major US city when he is elected to the San Francisco, California Board of Supervisors. His future assassin, Dan White, is also elected on this day. 

On this day Bill Clinton becomes the first President to speak, to grant an audience, to a dinner assembled by the Human Rights Campaign. And indeed, no group of godless evil sodomites has greeted a president so positively.
