What is White Crane Institute?
White Crane Institute promotes the development of healthy Gay men and healthy Gay community. White Crane Institute’s goal is to foster the gathering and dissemination of information about the critical role sexuality and gender variation has played and continues to play in the development of cultural, and spiritual and to provide a nurturing environment for the continuation and expansion of those explorations for the greater good of all society.
White Crane Institute projects have included: the quarterly publication of the award-winning White Crane, White Crane Books: Books of Gay Wisdom and Culture, the Gay Men’s Leadership Academy, the online Gay Wisdom Daily Digest, sponsorship of documentary film projects that explore Gay culture and wisdom, the biennial James White Poetry Prize, the OutWrite Authors Series and the Split This Rock poetry series in Washington D.C., the Queer Spirit Project in Salt Lake City, Utah and sponsorship of cultural content for LGBT community centers around the country. White Crane Journal was distributed in twenty-three countries.
Evolutionary theory demonstrates that nothing endures in Nature that doesn’t provide some form of adaptive behavior for the good of Nature as a whole. There is ample historical, scientific and anthropological evidence to demonstrate that same-sex oriented people have been and are, critical components in the development of healthy, integrated societies concerned with deeper values and spiritual community.
To demonstrate the essential, unique gifts that the often marginalized GLBT community plays in the spiritual development of humankind, White Crane Institute seeks to reclaim, through self reflection, scholarly study, and research, the traditional and natural role of GLBT people in the evolution of contemporary society.
