San Francisco bar TOAD HALL opened at 482 Castro St. It was credited as an influence in the development of the Castro as a Gay neighborhood, and would be closed three times due to fire.  This writer is particularly fond of this post as Toad Hall opened the year and day he moved to San Francisco and came out.
