KANE EVANS, born today is an Australian rugby league footballer who currently plays as a prop for Glebe Dirty Reds. He previously played for the Sydney Roosters, Parramatta Eels and the New Zealand Warriors in the National Rugby League (NRL), and Hull F.C. in the Super League. At representative level, Evans played for Fiji, New South Wales City and the World All Stars.
Evans played 131 games in the elite National Rugby League from 2014-2021 for clubs including the Sydney Roosters, Parramatta and the New Zealand-based Warriors before finishing off his professional career in England in 2023. He played 13 international games for Fiji.
Following his NRL career, Evans experienced addiction and homelessness. I June 2026, Evans sat down with James Bracey and he publicly came out as gay, becoming just the second male player in Australian professional rugby league history to do so.
“I know that I’m gay. But I went down every other avenue to sort of build up these walls. To be someone, to escape who I am,” Evans said.
“I’ve carried [hiding my sexuality] around my whole life,” he said. “I’m here today to show people that you don’t have to live like that. Even now I feel a bit more free, just by saying it out loud, I’ve brought it to the light.
“I feel peace within, and I feel like a weight has lifted off my shoulders. I’m a bit proud of myself and when I look in the mirror, I’m going to smile now, not have those bad thoughts,” he added.
